Nobody on two legs went out with Cal Poly’s Swarnjit Boyal at the NCAA West Region cross-country championships on Friday.

So it must have been to Boyal’s surprise when he saw a rival nip at his heels in Sacramento.

A small dog kept up with Boyal for at least a small stretch of the 10km course. Boyal eventually fell back and placed 51st out of 193 finishers.

No split times were available for the dog.
