Vancouver gold medal downhill skier Lindsey Vonn spent the night in a Colorado hospital with “severe intestinal pain” that has been affecting her for two weeks. She’s awaiting diagnostic testing.
Vonn hoped to compete against the men next weekend at the World Cup downhill race in Alberta, but after her request denied by the International Ski Federation, the four-time world champ decided to skip the slalom opener in Finland to focus on upcoming races in Aspen following Thanksgiving.
Vonn’s ski technician, Heinz Haemmerle, told the Associated Press that she’s been hospitalized “two or three times” for the pain since arriving for training in Colorado, but that this was the first time she had stayed overnight.
“She told me she feels bad and has pain all over her body and that her bones are hurting,” Haemmerle said, while confirming that Vonn was not suffering from ski-related injuries. “The coaches also don’t know. First they told me we would train again Monday, then Wednesday, now the end of the week.”
