The Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid could include the to-be-constructed NFL stadium in nearby Inglewood.
“The wealth of existing and planned infrastructure in the City of Angels means LA 2024 has the luxury of selecting the best choices for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, not building them from scratch,” LA 2024 bid chairman Casey Wasserman said in a statement Wednesday. “And the new NFL stadium represents an opportunity to add to the array of high-quality venues we already have in our Games Plan.”
An NFL vote Tuesday authorized the St. Louis Rams’ move back to Los Angeles, starting next season.
The L.A. Memorial Coliseum, which was the 1984 Olympic Stadium, is the likely venue for the Rams until their Inglewood stadium is ready for the 2019 NFL season, according to ProFootballTalk.
An L.A. 2024 bid book published in August proposed Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Coliseum and soccer at the Rose Bowl.
International Olympic Committee members will vote to choose the 2024 Olympic host city in September 2017. The candidates are Los Angeles, Budapest, Paris and Rome.
