The U.S. Olympic Committee will decide next week if it will bid for the 2024 Olympics and, if it moves forward, could choose its candidate city next week, too, according to The Associated Press.
The four finalists for a potential 2024 U.S. Olympic bid are Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
The USOC board of directors will meet Tuesday and decide whether to bid after presentations from all four cities, according to the AP.
“If we decide to move forward with a bid next week, I would say within 30-60 days we would probably select a city,” USOC chairman Larry Probst said, according to the AP, “but we could get to that next week as well.”
The U.S. has not hosted a Summer Olympics since 1996 and a Winter Games since 2002, its longest stretch between hosting Olympics since a 28-year gap from 1932 to 1960.
New York and Chicago made failed bids for the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, respectively.
Of the four U.S. 2024 finalists, only Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics before -- in 1932 and 1984.
Other 2024 bids could come from Paris, Rome, Berlin or Hamburg and South Africa.
The International Olympic Committee will vote to choose the 2024 host city in 2017.
