That beautifully muddy quagmire of a field at the Citrus Bowl during this past season’s Capital One Bowl? It’s all but officially a thing of the past.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orlando City Council approved a measure Monday that would allow for negotiations to commence with AstroTurf and will likely end with the artificial surface being installed in the stadium.
The council approved AstroTurf over FieldTurf, which got all catty by complaining that the former company did not hold a general contractor’s license in the state of Florida.
The new surface is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $1 million, and cannot exceed $1.5 million. It’s expected to be completely installed no later than September 1.
