Auburn loses DB Josh Holsey to torn ACL injury

Before Auburn heads into SEC play this week at LSU, Auburn had some unfortunate news on the injury report to share. Defensive back Josh Holsey will miss the remainder of the 2015 season after tearing his ACL in Auburn’s overtime victory over Jacksonville State on Saturday.

“We’re going to talk through all that,” Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said, according to Al.com. “It’s tough on him. He’s one of our team leaders, too, and I know a lot of his teammates are hurt for him.”

Holsey’s loss is a hit to the depth at the position. The senior has appeared in each of Auburn’s first tow games of the season, although he carried a limited role. He was not on the field for much of Auburn’s season-opening win in Atlanta against Louisville, but he did start for the Tigers against Jacksonville State. He has not recorded a tackle in either game.

Holsey started seven games for Auburn in 2014, with one interception. He could be eligible for a medical redshirt since he has not used a redshirt in his four years at Auburn. It is not known if he will pursue that option just yet. If he does choose to apply for one, the NCAA will have to grant approval for an extra year of eligibility.
