Auburn transfer immediately eligible to play for Buffaloes

One of the most important positions on the field may have been addressed Monday for the Colorado Buffaloes thanks to the NCAA.

Offensive tackle Shane Callahan, an Auburn transfer, has been granted immediate eligibility, according to a release from the school.

“We’re happy for Shane and his family that the NCAA declared him eligible to play this year,” Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre said in the statement. “It’s great to have another state of Colorado athlete on our football team.”

Callahan, a four-star recruit out of Chaparral High School (Parker, Colo.), originally signed with Auburn. Rivals.com ranked Callahan as the 22nd best offensive tackle recruit in the 2012 class. Callahan only played in two games during his two years with the Tigers, though.

With junior Stephane Nembot settled at right tackle, Callahan could potentially slide into the starting left tackle spot. He’ll have to compete with junior Marc Mustoe and sophomore Jeromy Irwin during fall camp to eventually man the blindside.
