Scheduled to give a deposition on Friday, Reggie Bush has instead reportedly reached a settlement in a civil suit brought against him by Lloyd Lake.
Yahoo! Sports first reported the agreement between the two sides.
Lake had sued Bush over what he claimed was $300,000 in unpaid rent, cash and other -- illegal -- benefits, and the former Southern Cal running back would’ve been forced to testify under oath as to whether he received the illicit benefits. A judge had already ruled that the depositions of all parties involved could be made public, and the NCAA -- as it looks to put the bow on its investigation into Bush specifically and USC in general -- was very interested in the testimony of Michael Michaels, another part of New Era Sports who had already reached a settlement agreement with Bush but had been deposed for Lake’s suit.
With Lake’s suit seemingly going away, the NCAA will now have to go by previous statements made by both Lake and Bush -- when neither were under oath and the threat of perjury wasn’t hanging over their heads -- as it attempts to finally resolve the Bush probe.
Certainly, given the settlement and the fact that Bush’s/Lake’s/Michaels’ depositions will not be available for public consumption, USC officials would seemingly be able to breathe a little easier today.
