Alabama lost a four-star 2015 signee earlier today to transfer. Now, the Tide lost a four-star player from this year’s class before he could even get on campus.
Monday, Kendell Jones’ father confirmed to both SECCountry.com and al.com that his son failed to qualify academically at UA and will not enroll. Instead, the defensive tackle is headed to an unspecified junior college.
As for his future with the Tide? SECCountry.com explains it thusly:
It is unclear whether Jones needs one year or two at a junior college to be eligible to play NCAA football. If it is one year, he remains bound to Alabama by a signed national letter of intent. If it is two years, he would be free to choose a new NCAA school upon graduating.
Nicknamed “Hulk,” the 6-5, 375-pound lineman was rated as the No. 12 tackle in the country and the No. 14 player at any position in the state of Texas. Given the attrition along the line ‘Bama sustained since the end of the 2015 season, Jones was expected to contribute immediately as a true freshman.
