Heading into Saturday’s game, Texas was the unanimous No. 1 team in the country in the AP poll. Oklahoma State was No. 7.The two teams played a hard-fought game at Texas, and it went down to the wire before Texas won 28-24 when Oklahoma State’s last-ditch pass fell short on the last play of the game. Oklahoma State gave Texas its toughest test of the season.Texas stayed a unanimous No. 1 in this week’s poll, which is fine. But why did Oklahoma State drop in the AP poll? It doesn’t make any sense. You play the No. 1 team in the country almost even, and you decline in the polls? The most galling of all the voters is Ferd Lewis of the Honolulu Advertiser, who dropped Oklahoma State all the way down to 11th on his ballot. Really, Ferd? You thought Oklahoma State was the No. 8 team, they almost won on the road against the No. 1 team, and they dropped in your eyes? How can Texas be No. 1 and Oklahoma State No. 11?It’s the latest reminder that the voters simply don’t put enough thought into their ballots. Lewis is just this week’s most egregious example.
HOW CAN TEXAS BE NO. 1 AND OKLAHOMA STATE NO. 11?
