Louisville wide receiver James Quick and Kentucky defensive end Jason Hatcher, former high school teammates, were cited for possession of marijuana on May 26, according to a report by The Courier-Journal. Louisville’s university police cited the two after authorities responded to a complaint about a marijuana odor coming from Quick’s apartment.
As reported by The Courier-Journal, using information from a police report, Quick was in possession of 39.5 grams of marijuana and Hatcher was found with 2.5 grams in his pocket. Police also discovered a digital scale and marijuana grinder in Quick’s apartment. Possession of marijuana and paraphernalia is considered a misdemeanor offense in the state of Kentucky. The status of each player at his respective program remains unchanged, but both schools are aware of the citations.
“We are aware of the situation involving James Quick and are very disappointed in his actions,” U of L coach Bobby Petrino said in a release through a team spokesman. “We will handle the situation appropriately from within the program.”
“We are aware of it and will address it when all the facts have been determined,” a Kentucky spokesperson said to The Courier-Journal.
Court dates for each player are scheduled for later this month.
