Less than 24 hours after their defensive coordinator left for the same job at Texas, Mississippi State has found their replacement.
And, as it turns out, they didn’t have to look very far to find him.
The school announced Thursday afternoon that head coach Dan Mullen has promoted Chris Wilson to defensive coordinator. Wilson spent his first season with the Bulldogs as co-coordinator with Manny Diaz as well as serving as the defensive line coach.
“Chris is a talented and knowledgeable coach with a wealth of experience, and we intend to build upon what our defense did this past season,” Mullen said in a statement. “Chris has a great relationship with our players and he’ll make a seamless transition.”
In addition to Wilson’s promotion, Angelo Mirando was named wide receivers coach by Mullen. Mirando had been an on-field offensive grad assistant the past two seasons in Starkville.
