After reporting a few weeks ago that Notre Dame cornerback Gary Gray was on track to return to school for the summer semester, Gray learned last week that he was officially readmitted into Notre Dame. The return to South Bend ends Gray’s exile in South Carolina, where he spent the past five months working out alone and keeping himself in shape. Yet the physical aspects of his return aren’t what worries Gray’s legal guardian and former high school coach Duane Wages."He’s not going to be far off physically, it’s the mental part,” Wages said. “He’ll get back into a rhythm. It won’t take him long. This has made him more hungry."Wages also shed some light on what forced Gray away from school in the first place. While it’s already been reported that Gray hadn’t fallen behind academically, it seems an academic incident forced Gray to take an involuntary sabbatical."He made a mistake, it was a costly mistake,” Wages said. “A lot of times you don’t appreciate something until it’s taken away. He’s never had that. Him not being around his teammtaes, it really sunk in."Gray’s return will give Notre Dame four starting-caliber cornerbacks in its secondary, with Raeshon McNeil, Robert Blanton, and Darrin Walls all ready to contribute next fall.
