A pair of Arkansas Razorbacks will likely not be a part of the roster once the 2011 season rolls around, albeit for entirely different reasons.
Offensive lineman Colby Berna, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports, will likely be forced to retire from the game due to lingering shoulder issues. An injury to the joint forced the lineman to take a redshirt year in 2009, and then miss the entire 2010 season.
He did not participate in spring practice due to the same injury issue, and is expected to become a medical hardship.
On the other side of attrition ledger is tight end Ryan Calender, who asked for, and was granted, a release from his scholarship. Calender had been buried deep on UA’s depth chart, which is likely the reason by his departure.
As noted by the paper, Calender becomes the third Hog to leave the program this offseason, joining wide receiver Lance Ray and kicker Eduardo Camara.
UPDATED 4:28 p.m. ET: Arkansas has also announced that offensive lineman Cam Feldt and linebacker Austin Moss have been released from their scholarships and will be transferring from the program.
