With yet another report surfacing this morning that Pete Carroll has accepted a job offer from the Seattle Seahawks, the focus is shifting more and more to just who will replace the head coach in 2010.
According to at least one report, athletic director Mike Garrett has an extremely short list of candidates. “Short” as in “one”, with a couple of fall-back options just in case.
Per the Los Angeles Daily News, Oregon State head coach Mike Riley is far and away Garrett’s top choice to replace Carroll. Should Riley turn down the overtures, Garrett would then turn to a pair of former Trojans -- Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio and Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher.
As for Carroll officially bolting for the great Northwest, he won’t officially be hired by the Seahawks until the club has gotten the opportunity to satisfy the Rooney Rule and interview a minority for Jim Mora’s old job.
