In a somewhat stunning turn of events, Indiana starting quarterback-turned-wide receiver Kellen Lewis has been dismissed from the football program, the Indianapolis Star is reporting.Lewis was kicked off the team for -- sing it with me -- violating unspecified team rules.”We are disappointed to have to make this decision,” IU coach Bill Lynch said in a statement released by the university. “When you have expectations of those on your team that are not met, you need to do what is ultimately in the overall best interest of your program."Lewis had set numerous school records as a quarterback -- including most career touchdown passes (48) -- before moving to receiver. The fifth-year senior was a second-team All-Big Ten selection as a QB in 2007.Last year, Lewis was suspended for four months due to a violation of team rules.Via various reports throughout the spring, Lewis had seemingly embraced his new role and was looking forward to contributing as a receiver. Now, given NCAA transfer rules and Lewis entering his fifth year of eligibility, he will likely have to embrace a Division 1-AA or lower opportunity if he decides to continue his collegiate football career.
