Wildfires not altering UCLA’s season opener... yet

As thousands upon thousands of residents have been ordered to flee yet another spate of Southern California wildfires, the UCLA-San Diego State game in the Rose Bowl is scheduled to go off as planned.

At least for now.

According to a press release from the schools, the Bruins say they are monitoring the situation and remain in contact with the proper authorities.

As of this afternoon, the wildfires had grown to nearly 86,000 square acres. Over 10,000 homes are said to be at risk from the fires. Two firefighters have lost their lives fighting the blazes.

Here’s the complete text of UCLA’s statement on the situation:

Our first concern is for the families affected by the fires and for the men and women fighting those fires.
At this time, the plan is to play Saturday’s football game versus San Diego State at the Rose Bowl as scheduled. We are in constant contact with City of Pasadena authorities and will continue to monitor the situation.
