Jim Young of ACCSports.com confirms that prized defensive end recruit Fre’Shad Hunter will not attend North Carolina State, where he had previously been a verbal commit.
“Looks like academics were an issue,” Young writes on his blog.
Hunter dropped off his team at Cary High as a senior to concentrate on the books.
“Right now, it is a little up in the air,” said Hunter’s prep coach, Ben Kolstad. “I expect he’ll go to a prep school or a junior college.”
Hunter was listed at 6-foot-4, 245. Rivals had him as a four-star recruit, so it’s quite a loss for the Wolfpack.
Hunter could always resurface with N.C. State after the JUCO or prep school process.
