Scott McCarron - August 1, 2012

3-time PGA TOUR Winner Scott McCarron has been the host of the Reno-Tahoe Open since 2010. When the idea came up to switch the tournament format to modified stableford, he was immediately supportive. He loved playing in THE INTERNATIONAL for many years and he is very excited that his event now has the format.

As the host, he is no different than Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Davis Love III in terms of host responsibilities. Like those three, he works to try to get big names into the field and also make sure that everyone is having a great time and that the tournament is running smoothly. The field for this year’s Reno-Tahoe Open is very strong and he feels that a big reason for that is the switch from stroke play format to modified stableford format.

When asked about anchoring the putter, he is not too worried about the issue because he and many other amateurs and professionals have putted that way for many years and he believes that it is too late for the USGA and R&A to outlaw it. If they do, there will be a lot of protest from players and manufacturers and it will be a big problem.
