Dickey’s father died Tuesday night, but he still wanted to make his scheduled start Thursday, when he threw 7.1 innings of one-run ball in a 7-1 victory over the New York Mets.How anyone can perform under such circumstances is beyond me. That R.A. Dickey did so and did so so well is a testament to his mental strength.
