Every iconic sporting event has its iconic trophy - be it the Super Bowl with the Vince Lombardi Trophy or the NHL finals with the Stanley Cup.
Arguably the most iconic trophy in motorsports is the Borg-Warner Trophy, awarded to drivers that win the Indianapolis 500.
With the 100th running in the rear view mirror and rookie Alexander Rossi the latest driver who will have his face etched forever onto the Borg-Warner Trophy, it’s only fitting that’s he’ll eventually be added to the faces sculpted onto the trophy that already exist.
One book just out now pays tribute to those faces, the sculptor, William Behrends (profiled here a couple years ago) and the trophy itself.
Metal of Honor, The History of the Borg-Warner Trophy Book, premiered at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this May to celebrate the 100th running of the race.
Contained within the 136 color pages are the history of some of racing’s greatest drivers who’ve competed, recaps of the 99 past Indianapolis 500 mile races, amazing photography and memorable facts. It’s a great hardcover coffee table book.
Each winning face goes along with the race recap. There’s also a special tribute section to Roger Penske, who has won 16 Indianapolis 500s.
