This is the outcome Kris Humphries was pushing for and it looks like he got his wish.
The power forward is returning to the Nets, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.
Humphries had been close in negotiations with the Nets, the team’s GM Billy King said last week so this really isn’t a surprise. The Nets shopped him everywhere this summer — to Orlando, to Cleveland as part of an Orlando deal — plus teams like the Bobcats came calling (reportedly with three-years, $28 million). But Lopez always really wanted to be a Brooklyn hipster.
Is $12 million a year a bit high? Yes, but not wildly out of line as quality big men get overpaid in the NBA. This is a good move by the Nets — Humphries is a good NBA power forward. Last season he averaged 13.8 points and 11 rebounds a game, and you need a strong rebounder next to Brook Lopez (who also is returning to Brooklyn). Humphries is an above average PER of 17.8. He’s no All-Star, his choice in women is less than ideal, but he’s a good NBA player who turns 27, so a couple year deal is a good match.
