Daniel Alfredsson’s ailing back hasn’t gotten much better the past few weeks as he continues experiencing setbacks, casting doubt on whether he’ll return for one more season with the Detroit Red Wings.
Alfredsson, who turns 42 on Dec. 11, called general manager Ken Holland last week and expressed frustration that his back hadn’t progressed to the point where he could even practice with the team.
“He said he’s not where he wants to be to attempt to play hockey this year,” Holland said. “I said to Alfie take a little longer and see if your body responds.”

...and you have to wonder how long Alfredsson will keep waiting for things to get better.
If Alfredsson could play today for the Wings, he’d be the second-oldest skater in the NHL, after 42-year-old Jaromir Jagr.
