This could be bad for the New York Islanders.
Travis Hamonic will miss the remainder of the regular season with a lower-body injury, after which he will be reevaluated prior to the playoffs.
That update came this morning from Isles head coach Jack Capuano, the day after the hard-nosed defenseman was injured against Columbus.
From Newsday reporter Laura Albanese:
Capuano said he isn't certain if Hamonic will miss playoffs, but clearly this is fairly serious. #isles

As we wrote last night:
Hamonic, a steadying presence on the blueline, missed all of last year’s opening-round playoff loss to the Caps with a knee injury (grade-3 MCL tear). Without him, the defense was thinned out and the Isles ultimately bowed out in seven games.
For a team that hasn’t won a playoff series since 1993, the timing of this injury is incredibly unfortunate. Hopefully, for the Isles’ sake, Hamonic can make a speedy recovery.
We’ll leave Isles fans with these two reasons for hope:
"Obviously not good news but it’s not terrible because he could – should – be back for playoffs." - Boychuk on Hamonic. <shrug> #isles

Hamonic participated in the team picture and was in uniform. Was not in a full-body cast. Huzzah. #isles
