Penguins push win streak to 13 games

brendenmorrowasapenguingetty

While the Pittsburgh Penguins await word on Marc-Andre Fleury’s status, they at least have the bright side of their 13th consecutive win to look on.

They did it the Montreal Canadiens’ way, beating one of the East’s biggest contenders 1-0 on Tuesday.

Fleury and his backup Tomas Vokoun combined for the shutout. “The Flower” collected 25 saves in the first two periods while Vokoun added 12 more in the third.

Sidney Crosby scored the lone goal, with Chris Kunitz and Brooks Orpik earning the assists.

Brenden Morrow logged less than 13 minutes and managed a hit (and not much else) in his Penguins debut while Kris Letang logged 24:20 of ice time in his return from a lower-body injury.

Pittsburgh’s 52 standings points leaves them atop the NHL, although the Chicago Blackhawks can change that tonight against the Calgary Flames (they’re currently parked at No. 1 in the West with 51 points).
