Lightning prospect Slater Koekkoek, who was picked 10th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, got a scare when he suffered a shoulder injury during an OHL preseason game on Thursday. Koekkoek needed to have surgery for a torn labrum last season, but fortunately his latest setback isn’t nearly as serious. He was diagnosed with a deep bone bruise. (Tampa Bay Times)
Speaking of top picks in 2012, Canadiens prospect Alex Galchenyuk will not play in Europe, even if there’s an NHL lockout. He plans to play for OHL Sarnia, but he will presumably compete for a spot with the Montreal Canadiens after a new CBA is signed. (Calgary Sun)
