After a lengthy summer without a contract, John Moore is back with the Rangers.
On Wednesday, the New York Post reported that Moore agreed to a one-year, $850,500 deal with the Blueshirts -- matching the qualifying offer New York first made for him back in June.
Moore, 23, was Columbus’ first-round pick (21st overall) in 2009 but has spent the last one-and-a-half seasons with the Rangers after coming over in the Marian Gaborik deadline deal last April. Moore enjoyed something of a breakout campaign in his first full season on Broadway in ’13-14, posting career-highs in games played (74), goals (four), assists (11) and playoff appearances (21).
Financially speaking, the deal is a nice one for New York. The Rangers were up against it cap-wise -- they are now roughly $1.3 million away from the ceiling -- and Moore figures to be a key contributor on the blueline this season, especially with the likes of Anton Stralman, Raphael Diaz and Justin Falk no longer in the mix.
