Brazil’s Odair Santos appeared to have an IPC World Track and Field Championships 5000m gold medal locked up coming around the final curve.
Exhaustion had set in, however.
Santos, competing in a visually impaired division with a guide runner, fell three times in the final 100 meters, allowing three men to pass him. Watch the end from the 12-minute mark in the video.
He finished fourth, two years after sweeping the 800m, 1500m and 5000m at Worlds.
