Brock Jones homered twice off the bench to propel the Rays past the Phillies 5-4 on Thursday.
Jones had a solo homer in the eighth and a two-run blast in the ninth, as the Rays scored all five of their runs in those innings. Jones, a 2022 second-round pick after a terrific career at Stanford, has been a disappointment in the pros. He spent a second straight season at high-A Bowling Green last year, hitting .224/.326/.445 in 377 plate appearances. He should move up to Double-A at age 24 this season, but he’s going to need to have a big year to be taken seriously as a prospect.
