If Duke is to bounce back from back-to-back losses, they may have to do so with their lead man under center.
As is the case each and every in-season Thursday, Duke released its injury report earlier today and, in a surprising development, quarterback Thomas Sirk is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh. Sirk apparently sustained an unspecified upper-body injury in the blowout loss to North Carolina in Week 10.
Not only is Sirk the Blue Devils’ starting quarterback, but his 555 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground are tops on the team as well. If Sirk is unable to answer the bell, Parker Boehme would get the call in what would be his first career start.
Speaking of answering the bell, Shaun Wilson officially won’t be able to as he’s listed as out on the injury report. The running back sustained a lower-leg injury in the wild loss to Miami in Week and sat out last weekend’s game against UNC. Wilson is third on the team with 313 rushing yards.
The Coastal could be decided this weekend as a UNC win combined with a Pitt loss would hand the division to the Tar Heels and set up an ACC championship game date with Clemson in early December. In order for the 4-1 Panthers to win the division, they need the 5-0 Tar Heels to lose two of their last three conference games while they win all three as UNC holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. To claim the Coastal, the 3-2 Blue Devils would need the Tar Heels to lose their remaining three while they win all three of theirs because of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
