Former Buffs TE Heading Home

Less than a month after his decision to leave the Colorado football program, tight end Ryan Wallace has landed at the University of Kentucky, the Lexington Herald-Leader is reporting.

Wallace’s decision to transfer was based largely on the fact that he spent the entire 2008 season both languishing on the scout team and suffering from a massive case of homesickness. Wallace was raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky, which is roughly 150 miles from the Lexington campus.

“The potential is there for me to get early playing time, and the fact that’s it the SEC didn’t hurt,” Wallace said. “It’s far enough that I can be myself, but close enough that my family can come watch me play.”

The TE’s father admitted that the distance between Boulder and Bowling Green played a role in his son’s decision, as did the passing of the younger Wallace’s grandfather this past Thanksgiving.

“Things happened personally within our family that had an impact on him, and he welcomes the opportunity to get closer to home,” Kevin Wallace, who was also his son’s high school coach, told The Herald-Leader.

In addition to Kentucky, Wallace had also considered Western Kentucky as a potential transfer destination.
