After announcing back in January that two assistants wouldn’t be retained, Jim Grobe has filled the two holes on his Wake Forest coaching staff.
Jonathan Himebauch and Derrick Jackson have been hired as offensive line coach and outside linebackers coach, respectively, the Demon Deacons announced via a press release. The official hiring of Jackson confirms previous reports.
“I feel like we’ve really helped ourselves in hiring two guys who will be excellent recruiters, excellent coaches on the field and excellent role models for their players,” said Grobe in a statement. “With Jonathan, we’ll be able to do something I’ve wanted to do for a while and that’s let Lobo coordinate the offense and Jonathan will do a great job coaching the offensive line and bring us some good ideas that will help us offensively.
“Derrick has lots of good coaching experience, is a proven recruiter, and from a pass rush standpoint, will give us some good ideas on rushing the passer. His background in the pass rush will help us improve defensively.”
Himebauch, a two-year starter at center for USC in the mid-90s, is leaving the Toronto Argonauts just two months after being hired as the CFL club’s offensive coordinator. He’s spent time on college coaching staffs at San Diego State (2006-08) and UNLV (2000, 2004).
Before spending the 2011 season at Rice, he was an assistant at Akron (2010), Syracuse (2007-09), Michigan State (2006), Northern Illinois (2005), Eastern Illinois (2003-04) and Army (2001-02).
