The roller coaster ride that is Josh Smith‘s collegiate career has taking a decidedly downward dip, the Los Angeles Daily News is reporting.
According to the Daily News, the UCLA wide receiver suffered a torn PCL and may require surgery to repair. Smith will miss the remainder of spring practice regardless of whether the knee is surgically repaired or not.
Barring the unexpected, though, Smith should be available for the start of summer camp.
“It’s just unfortunate that he’ll miss the better part of spring practice,” head coach Rick Neuheisel said. “Now we’ve got to come to the right program to get him healthy. The MRI was conclusive yesterday, so we know more now.
“It’s up to him to have a great academic quarter - he’s got some things to accomplish there - and he has to make sure he stays into the playbook and knows exactly what he’s got to do and when the leg comes around, which it will, he’s ready to respond.”
Smith decided last May that he was transferring from Colorado and was initially thought to be headed to USC. He ultimately decided to become a Bruin two months later, and was/is being counted on to add some explosiveness to UCLA’s offense and special teams.
In 2008, Smith accounted for nearly 2,000 yards when combining receiving and kick returns yardage for the Buffaloes.
