It goes without saying that Mike Leach is the best quote in the college game today. Ask the Texas Tech head coach a question, and you are going to get a straight, honest answer whether you like it or not.
Today, Leach was asked about the Mark Mangino investigation on a teleconference. Suffice to say, he didn’t leave any teeth marks on his tongue.
Saying that the investigation into the Kansas head coach for allegedly poking a player in his chest has put Mangino “in the middle of [a] witch hunt”, Leach -- who was an assistant with Mangino on Bob Stoops’ Oklahoma staff in 1999 -- blasted and mocked the entire situation and obviously threw his support behind the embattled coach.
“Heaven forbid somebody should ask a guy to pay attention and focus in for the sake of all his teammates and coaches and everyone else,” Leach said according to the Lawrence Journal-World. “Well, there’s different ways to ask a guy to do that, and sometimes, after you’ve asked him a number of times, you raise the bar.
“The mean man told some player something he didn’t want to hear,” Leach said in mock horror according to the Journal-World. “Well, there’s a mean man in Lubbock that tells people stuff they don’t want to hear, too, and that’s just part of it.”
If there’s a man that needs a reality show and have a camera following him 24/7, it’s Mike Leach.
