LOU’S KID GETS AN EXTENSION

Just a week after he was rumored to be a candidate for the Boston College opening, East Carolina head coach Skip Holtz has come to a tentative agreement with the university on a contract extension. It’s funny how that works, eh?According to the Raleigh News & Observer, Holtz’s contract now runs through the end of the 2013 season. Holtz was originally given a five-year deal in 2005, and the deal was last “adjusted” following the 2006 season. The coach earned $1.2 million in 2008, but there is no word yet on what his new salary structure will be."The proposed agreement recognizes and rewards Coach Holtz for all he and his family have done for ECU athletics and the entire community,” athletic director Terry Holland said in a statement released by the school. “It is our intention to encourage them to stay with us a long, long time."In the three years prior to Holtz’s arrival, ECU was 3-20; the Pirates have gone 29-22 under Holtz since. Included in that total are back-to-back-to back bowl appearances for the rising mid-major, including a 41-38 win over then-#24 Bosie State in the 2007 Hawaii Bowl.Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, ECU set a school record for average attendance last season.
