Muschamp channels Stoops, says he’s not an Irish candidate

Less than three hours after Charlie Weis was officially fired as Notre Dame’s coach, the list of potential replacements is already seemingly thinning out.

On the heels of Bob Stoops denying his interest in the job yet again, Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has done the same for the first time.

The coordinator was named as a potential candidate by the South Bend Tribune recently, but he says he’s not going anywhere.

I’m going to be at Texas,” Muschamp said when asked about openings at other schools.

Muschamp has been named as Texas’ coach-in-waiting, and makes $900,000 a season. Muschamp’s contract also calls for him to make at least $2 million a year beginning in 2010 if Mack Brown steps down and his assistant takes over. Once 2013 rolls around, that total would increase to at least $2.5 million annually.

Brown is currently signed through the 2016 season.
