Last October, after suffering his fifth concussion, Boston College linebacker Christian Lezzer opted to walk away from football. Eight months later, Lezzer has opted for a return, albeit on a different campus.
On social mediaWednesday, Lezzer announced that he has “accepted a scholarship to continue my football career at the University of Central Florida.” Lezzer subsequently told 247Sports.com that he chose UCF over Arizona and Penn State.
As for his health, Lezzer wrote that he has met “some of the most renowned neurologists and sports concussion specialists in the world” and they have “officially concluded that I am cleared to continue playing college football at no more risk than the average college football player.”Can’t wait to spend the next few years in Orlando, Florida! 🌴☀️🌴 pic.twitter.com/Zh8QlpwpmJ

Because Lezzer played in the first three games of the 2015 season, he will be forced to sit out the 2016 season. He will then have at least two years of eligibility remaining, perhaps three if he receives a medical hardship waiver for the 2015 season.
Lezzer was a three-star member of Boston College’s 2014 recruiting class. He played in eight games as a true freshman.
