Second-leading rusher walking away from Memphis

Memphis’ quality and depth at the running back position has taken an unexpected hit exiting the 2013 season.

Saying “[a] change is needed,” Marquis Warford revealed via Twitter that he has decided to leave the Tigers football program. Head coach Justin Fuente subsequently confirmed that the player would be seeking a transfer.

No specific reason was given for the departure.

“Man I’m just trying to play ball, when it comes down to it I want to win and compete simple,” Warford tweeted.

The freshman finished the 3-9 season second on the team with 303 yards and led the Tigers with a 5.9 yards-per-attempt average. Warford was a three-star member of Memphis’ 2013 recruiting class coming out of high school in San Antonio.
