A month after Gary Crowton was ousted as offensive coordinator, Maryland has given the boot to the coordinator on the other side of the ball.
Confirming rumors that surfaced late last month, the school announced in a press release that defensive coordinator Todd Bradford will not return to the Maryland football staff in 2012. the release went on to read that both parties agreed to a negotiated buyout of Bradford’s remaining contract.
What the financial particulars entail were not revealed.
“We appreciate Todd’s efforts this past season and wish him well in his future endeavors. It is the right time for us to move forward in a different direction,” head coach Randy Edsall said.
Bradford had just finished his first season with the Terps after leaving the same job at Southern Miss. In the last year of Ralph Friedgen‘s tenure in 2010 -- how’s that whole firing thing working out for ya, Maryland? -- the Terps finished 38th in scoring defense (22.2) and 39th in total defense (352.3); in 2011, the Terps finished 102nd (34.3) and 108th (457.2).
Shortly after posting a brief blurb on Bradford’s dismissal on CFT’s Twitter account, one of our followers asked a very pertinent question when it comes to the sinking ship that is Terrapins football: when is it a Randy Edsall problem? Based on players fleeing in droves, tumult at the top of the coaching staff and a two-win season in Edsall’s first year at the school, we’re guessing the answer to the follower’s question would be 2012 if things aren’t turned around post-haste.
