It has been a rough offseason for the Kansas Jayhawks. Players have been suspended and dismissed and others have been injured during the spring game or even retired. Looking to keep a sinking ship afloat as much as possible, Kansas has added a former UAB wide receiver to the roster.
Quincy Perdue will attend Kansas and will eligible to play immediately this fall. When the UAB football program was shut down, any player leaving for another playing opportunity was granted the right by the NCAA to a free transfer, meaning they would not have to sit out a season before playing again under typical NCAA transfer rules. Of course, UAB reversed course on that decision recently, but that was too late to have a team ready to compete this season as schedules have already been adjusted and the roster pretty much dismantled in the aftermath.
Perdue appeared in six games for the Blazers last fall. Though his production was minimal, he did provide one big highlight in a week two match-up against Mississippi State. Perdue caught one pass in the game, but it went 75 yards and a touchdown in the 47-34 loss to the SEC West program on the rise. At Kansas, Perdue will have a shot to step right in and compete for a key role following the dismissal of Rodriguez Coleman.
Since the end of the 2014 season, Kansas has lost its top six receivers due to graduation, the NFL Draft or dismissal from the program. It is shaping up to be a long year in Lawrence, but basketball season will come along soon enough for Jayhawk fans.
