Euros heating up with Solheim Cup around the corner

HARRISON, N.Y. – With the Solheim Cup a little more than three months away, it’s no surprise to see the Europeans heating up.

Suzann Pettersen’s victory last week at the Manulife LPGA Classic marked back-to-back LPGA victories for the Euros. Anna Nordqvist won the ShopRite Classic the week before that, beating fellow Euro Christel Boeljon by a shot.

The Euro double ended the continent’s 14-month victory drought in LPGA events.

“We Europeans, we obviously don’t care about the year in between the Solheims,” Pettersen cracked. “We care more about the current year. We want to build form.”

The Europeans have won the last two Solheim Cups and will be the home team with the biennial event being played in Germany Sept. 18-20.

“I was glad to see Anna win last week, and I’m happy to back it up this week,” Pettersen said. “All the Europeans are starting to really play some good golf, which is important for us to build the confidence we need for our team. There’s a lot of golf to be played before we go to Germany.”

The Europeans are looking to win their first major since Pettersen won the Evian Championship at the end of the 2013 season. It’s the only major the Euros have won in the last 23 played.
