IRVING, Texas – With a T-3 finish at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, Charles Howell III earned the 24th top-three result of his career.
Two wins, 14 seconds, eight thirds.
Let’s put this into a little context, though: On 22 different occasions, only one or two other players posted a better score for the week than Howell.
In a whirlwind close to Sunday’s final round, he finished bogey-eagle-birdie-bogey to shoot a 3-under 67 and tie for third behind only Brendon Todd and Mike Weir.
“When you find yourself not in the mix, you kind of wonder if you’ll ever get back there again,” he said. “This is a hard game. These players are so good it’s a challenge. So I’ve learned to appreciate the times I’m up there and try to take advantage of them. And in the hard times you just keep working and keep believing and try and find yourself there again.”
