MIYAZAKI, Japan -- Tiger Woods carded a 5-under 65 Saturday to extend his lead through three rounds of the Dunlop Phoenix to 10 strokes. Woods completed 54 holes at 13-under-par 197.
Woods, the world No. 2 has never won in Japan, but extended his early lead quickly in round three. He led by three entering the round, but stretched that out with birdies on two of his first three holes. He carded three more birdies on his way to the clubhouse.
Daniel Chopra, Naomichi Ozaki and Ryoken Kawagishi share second place at 3-under-par 207 at Phoenix Country Club.
Woods’ lead matches the largest of his career entering the final round. He also led by 10 strokes during his record breaking win at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
Woods is one pace for his first win anywhere since February when he titled at the WGC-Match Play Championship. His last stroke play title came in October 2003 when he successfully defended his title at the WGC-American Express Championship.
Thomas Bjorn, the defending champion, carded his second straight 69 on Saturday to move into a tie for 20th place at 3-over-par 213.
