Devore

DeVore, acquired from the Diamondbacks for Matt Herges back in June, is batting .284/.369/.568 in 37 games for Fresno. The 27-year-old could be considered for a September callup, but Todd Linden is first in line and the Giants might also activate Alex Sanchez, leaving them with a crowded outfield.

If Josh Kroeger struggles, the Diamondbacks could give Devore time in left field. However, they’d be better off just using him as a pinch-hitter. Unlike Kroeger, Devore shouldn’t have a future with the team.

DeVore could be back in September, depending on whether the team wants to add some of its better outfield prospects. He’s unlikely to be kept on the 40-man roster this winter.

Devore, 27, was hitting .289/.344/.503 in 44 games for Triple-A Tucson. He’s been available on waivers before, but he’s gone unclaimed. He’s just not quite good enough to make it as a reserve outfielder.

It’s kind of surprising that DeVore was the choice over Luis Terrero. The 26-year-old was hitting .305 with three homers and 10 RBI in 15 games for Tucson. Expect him to be used strictly as a pinch-hitter.

DeVore went 8-for-47 and struck out 16 times in two stints with the Diamondbacks.

DeVore went 2-for-14 with five strikeouts in his three weeks with the Diamondbacks.

DeVore, 2-for-14 before being sent down on Friday, will again be used primarily as a pinch-hitter.
