David Hernandez looked like a non-tender candidate after undergoing Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in April, but the Diamondbacks decided to keep him around and have now avoided arbitration with the right-handed reliever for $2 million. This according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.
Hernandez was arbitration-eligible for the third and final time. He can be a free agent next winter.
The 31-year-old has posted a decent 4.14 ERA (101 ERA+), 1.316 WHIP, and 381 strikeouts in 380 2/3 career major league innings. He should be recovered from surgery by the second month of the 2015 season.
