Marlins pitching prospect Andrew Heaney allowed five more runs over 3 2/3 innings in Saturday afternoon’s start against the Cardinals, bumping his ERA up to 6.53 over four starts spanning 20 2/3 innings. As a result, the Marlins have optioned him back to Triple-A New Orleans, the team announced.
Heaney, 23, was rated the #29 overall prospect by MLB.com and #30 by Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus entering the season. He had a good major league debut, holding the Mets to one run over six innings, but followed that up by allowing five runs to the Phillies and four to the Athletics prior to Saturday’s start.
The Marlins made some additional roster moves as well, reinstating starter Tom Koehler from the paternity leave list and activating shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria from the disabled list. Outfielder Jake Marisnick was optioned back to Triple-A New Orleans.
