Wally Backman needs a better lobbying operation

Look, I know there’s a passionate pro-Wally Backman lobby out there. And even if I disagree about his fitness for the job, I understand his appeal. But really, if you’re going to argue in favor of Backman -- and more to the point, if you’re going to rebut the charges that he lacks the requisite experience for the job -- you need to do a little better than this:

Joe Torre had no experience before becoming a manager, and he won several WS rings

Because, as we all know, the 15 years he spent managing the Mets, Braves and Cardinals prior to winning those rings doesn’t count when one measures “experience.”
