“He had problems,” trainer Mark Mann said. “He’ll throw a bullpen session for (pitching coach) Don Gullett when we get back to Cincinnati Tuesday.” It doesn’t sound like Wilson will return before September.

If all goes well, he will be reinstated from the DL on Wednesday and start against the Astros.

Wilson just finished the second season of a two-year, $4 million contract. Another two-year deal with a modest raise is probably what he’ll be seeking.

He will throw again tomorrow, and if all goes well, the Reds could activate Wilson as early as this Sunday, the first day he is eligible to return to action, although that might be a bit hopeful. Wilson did tell reporters that he felt fine after the workout.

Manager Bob Boone said Wilson looked ''real good.’' He’ll join the rotation the next time through.

''He’s had no pain, no problems,’' pitching coach Don Gullett said. Wilson should get back on the mound soon.

The Reds have decided not to push Wilson into a game. It remains questionable whether Wilson will be ready to make his first scheduled start of the season.

Wilson will throw in a simulted game tomorrow. If that goes well, his next session will be in a minor league game.

Wilson experienced no pain. He will throw a bullpen session Friday. If that goes well, he’ll probably pitch in a minor league game Sunday.
