Tim Norton pitched one-hit ball over seven scoreless innings Sunday as short-season Single-A Staten Island advanced past Brooklyn in the New York-Penn League playoffs.
The Yankees’ farm club will meet the Astros’ affiliate in Tri-City in the league championship series. Norton, a 2006 seventh-round pick out of UConn, was 3-3 with a 2.60 ERA, 60 H and 83/14 K/BB in 72 2/3 IP during the regular season. He’s 23 and he lacks above average stuff, but he should move quickly beginning next year and he could surface as a middle reliever someday.
