Kentucky Speedway is throwing one heck of a birthday party and fans are invited.
The guest of honor? NASCAR Hall of Famer and the winningest driver in the sport’s history, Richard Petty.
The Speedway will celebrate Petty’s 80th birthday on Saturday July 8, starting at 2 p.m. ET.
While additional plans are still in the works, a few of the celebratory activities are known:
* The King, who was born July 2, 1937 in Level Cross, North Carolina, will take part in a Q&A session with fans, hosted by his son and NASCAR on NBC analyst Kyle Petty.
* At several points during the afternoon, members of the NASCAR community – including drivers, team owners, sponsors and others – will offer their personal birthday wishes to The King, share a story and also talk about what Petty has meant to them and the sport.
Fans are encouraged to take part in offering Petty birthday wishes on social media by using the hashtag #KINGs80th
They can also learn more about at-track celebration activities by calling (859) 578-2300.
Petty’s birthday party will wrap up later that evening with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ Quaker State 400.
